Sensitive Skin Care: How to Apply it to Aging Skin

by Aileen Fitzharris

As we age, our skin care routine must change with us. Older skin is more brittle and thinner than younger skin. It requires different skin care products and a more gentle touch. If you have sensitive skin, then you need to be especially aware of your skin care routine as you age.

You need two approaches when dealing with aging, sensitive skin. You need to address the aging skin issue and you need to deal with the sensitive skin issue. This isn't as easy as it sounds because some aging products can cause allergic reactions or skin irritation.

Nevertheless, there are a couple of daily habits that you can adopt to help out your sensitive skin.

Positive Anti Aging Skin Care Habits for Sensitive Skin

While in the shower, use mild cleansers and soaps. If you are using products that contain alcohol you could actually be stripping the natural oils from your skin and making it even more sensitive. Fillers and fragrances can cause rashes and allergic reactions.

Don't spend all day in the shower. Taking long, hot showers may be soothing, but it can also promote dryness. Hot water, is a definite shower no-no because it strips the natural oils from your skin.

Once you've finished showering be gentle and pat your skin dry to avoid rubbing it. One last showering tip, make sure you use towels that are made with gentle fibers.

Another tip that can help you take care of sensitive skin is to avoid wearing rough clothing made with rough fibers. Wool is one of the most irritating fibers around. To keep warm you can choose softer natural fibers such as cashmere.

Clothing made with polyester blends and acrylic fibers can also cause itchiness and irritation. So instead of wearing man-made fibers, opt for garments made of cotton. Not only is cotton a soft fiber, but it is also an excellent way for keeping cool during the summer.

Picking the Right Anti Aging Products for Sensitive Skin

Achieving the right sensitive skin care routine for your aging skin is not difficult if you follow some important tips. Firstly, read the labels of all anti-aging products before purchasing. Some products, especially those that promise to eliminate skin wrinkles and age spots, may contain ingredients that are irritating and can damage sensitive skin.

Alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, and retinoids can all be quite irritating to sensitive skin. These ingredients are commonly found in anti-aging products so try using a more moisturizing formula to keep them from affecting your skin.

Also make sure you choose products that are both fragrance free and alcohol free. It may take a little longer to find these types of products, but they are out there. And while you're looking for these special products, also take a look at products that contain olive oil and Helix Aspersa Muller extract. Both of these ingredients are beneficial to skin repair and are non-irritating.

Natural skin care are a great way to address aging, sensitive skin. As a matter of fact, natural products such as BERRYSISTIBLE's REVITALIZER SERUM are an excellent skin care lotion for sensitive skin. You can use it in conjunction with BERRYSISTIBLE's wrinkles cream to get an all around aging, sensitive skin care treatment.
